5 Years of Digi

It literally just hit me that this month marks five years since I started scrapbooking digitally. Five years. Wow. In 2001, when pregnant with Jordan, I signed up for a scrapbooking class with my sisters. Before going, I had never heard of scrapbooking, so I looked it up online to find out all I could about the hobby. Needless to say, I was hooked. We attended the class and it was funny because I was able to answer questions that the instructor wasn't - and I had never even scrapped! This began a new journey into a hobby I became very passionate about. I actively participated in an online forum, kept up with all the latest products, bought papers and stickers and just about everything I desired, and scrapped whenever I could. I started with a pregnancy scrapbook. I had kept a journal throughout my pregnancy and this became my first album. It was 8 1/2 x 11 and it was horrible. But I cherish the fact that I did it and it's a true keepsake.

Fast forward to 2005. I was still quite the paper scrapper, making lots of online friends, even attending a retreat or two. It was also an activity I could share with one of my sisters, though she wasn't as consumed as I was. But, September 2005 brought an event in my life that I'm sad to say made me want to quit my hobby. I won't go into details, but I haven't touched my paper supplies since. And yes, I still have quite a few of them.

However, it was also during this month when I discovered digital scrapping. At first I didn't think it was for me. I loved to touch and play with the real elements, to feel the texture, manipulate papers, find just the right embellishment. Not to mention, I was on a computer all day, why on earth would I want to spend even more time at one? Well, as soon as I began this new, diverted journey into the hobby I loved so much, I found that it was actually the perfect fit for me!

Having always been creative on the computer (I did graphic design, etc. for many years) and having a love for photography, it seemed like the natural progression for me. While I couldn't have the actual feel of the embellishments on a page, I could manipulate them in ways I never imagined. Same with my photos. I soon discovered there were so many possibilities within digital scrapping that I never imagined. I was hooked and not looking back.

And I haven't. I've learned, grown and loved the past five years in this hobby so much. I've been honored to work with so many digital designers over the years, participated on so many creative teams (one of these days I really should make a list!) hung out at online communities, got to know so many fabulous people, learned so many new techniques, used so many fun new products, and kept my scrapbook area clean! (OK, maybe not, cause afterall, my paper stuff is still in the basement - one of these days maybe I'll try hybrid.) And the best part, my family can instantly see the pages I create when I post them on this blog, share them in a gallery or show them the books I've had printed.

And as you know, I've had the wonderful opportunity to become a digital scrapbook designer. Taking my love for creating graphics and my passion for scrapbooking and combining them into a wonderful new endeavor for me.

So, I'm thankful I found digital scrapping five years ago. Thankful I gave it a chance. And so thankful to be where I am at today, with a wonderful hobby, great online friends, a new career and the love and support of my family. It's been a great five years. I look forward to seeing where I'll be five years from now!

Hello and happy Thursday! I've got a couple of fun new products to share with you today! Doodle-Its: Borders are a fun new way to add a special touch to all of your scrapbook pages. Also, try using more than one together for a whole new look! Plus, as a special bonus, I've included a 5x5 inch size of each border in the pack - perfect for cards!

Each pack is completely different. Make sure to check out the additional previews in the store to see the layouts that my team and The Digichick team put together. And of course, all new releases are 20% off through Friday.

I just have to share this post I found this morning. It's on a blog I frequent often and I was simply amazed as I gazed (jaw-dropped) through the photos. Never Forget

Next week's challenge for the Log Your Memory log book is about capturing a significant event, such as 911, on a scrapbook page. I remember that day vividly. Although I did paper scrap it shortly after the event, I had never digitally scrapped it. So here is a page that will go in my personal album.

I do have a new kit up for next week and I thought I'd share a little sneak peek with you. I'm a sucker for fall kits and I had so much fun with this one, it just may be my new favorite kit!
